Description

Who doesn’t love a classic dinner of grilled steak and garlic mashed potatoes? This delicious combo is the epitome of comfort food! You’ve likely cooked this meal before (or paid handsomely in a restaurant for it), but I want to help you cook this meal at home and feel like you had one of the best meals of your life.

Need a beautiful appetizer to pair with your perfect grilled steak? Let me suggest this flavorful and beautiful Roasted Stuffed Eggplant Salad. Or, pair with my Vegan Coleslaw recipe; a fresh and tangy classic recipe that always goes well with grilled meat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 360 grams flank steak
  • 340 grams Mashed Potatoes
  • 140 grams frozen chopped spinach
  • 1/2 tsp. Dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your grill or grill pan by turning on the heat to medium-high. When the time comes to cook your steak, you’ll want your grill to be very hot.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the oil, rosemary, and minced garlic. Apply to the meat with a basting brush or spoon.
  3. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the steak and massage the marinade gently into the meat with your hands.
  4. Place the meat on the preheated grill and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the meat is cooked to your desired doneness.
  5. Meanwhile, place the pre-cooked garlic mashed potatoes and thawed, chopped spinach in a large, microwaveable dish. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave in 45 second bursts until hot, stirring often.
  6. Add salt and pepper to the potatoes as desired.
  7. Allow the cooked meat to rest on a cutting board for 10-15 minutes, tented with foil to keep it hot.
  8. Then, cut the meat into slices.
  9. Serve on a platter with the bowl of mashed potatoes.

Notes

If you want to make Garlic Steak Butter or Fresh Garlic Mashed Potatoes here are some instructions (these ingredients are not listed in the nutritional values)

  1. Make Fresh Garlic Steak Butter
  2. Add 1-2 tbsp of unsalted butter to a small saucepan, then season with 3-4 cloves of roasted or minced garlic and a few tsp of garlic powder.
  3. Add a few shakes of salt and allow the mixture to get nice and hot in the saucepan.
  4. Stir and don’t let the mixture burn.
  5. Finally, add 6 more tbsp of butter and mix everything together until melted and combined.
  6. Serve in a bowl, or give everyone their own for dipping.

  1. Fresh Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
  2. For 4-6 servings of garlic mashed, start by peeling about 2 lbs of white potatoes. Chop into 1 ½ inch pieces and boil until fork-tender.
  3. Drain and place the potatoes back in the pot.
  4. Next, warm up ⅓-½ cup cream or half and half in the microwave. You can also use milk for a less rich flavor. Add about 3 tbsp of butter and warm cream to the potatoes, along with the equivalent of 3-4 cloves of roasted garlic. You can adjust to your taste, or use minced instead.
  5. Use a hand mixer to beat the potatoes until smooth, but be careful not to overmix!
  6. The potatoes will get starchy and sticky. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve hot.
